BHS Guidelines for Volunteers

Our volunteers will follow all district policies governing volunteers.

Beaverton has a new volunteer policy:
Everyone who volunteers in our schools needs to have a background check. There is a simple form to fill out on the district website.
Follow these easy steps:

  1. Go to www.beaverton.k12.or.us and
click on the 'For Parents' tab.
  2. Click on the black 'Volunteer Background Check' icon on the left hand side of the page.
(or go directly to the volunteer form).
  3. Fill out the required fields and submit!

The background check is free and will help us keep our students and building safe. You can also pick up a paper copy of the form at the school, but it's much faster to submit online. Thanks to all our wonderful volunteers for their help in quickly filling these out!

Some other important aspects of volunteering are:

1. Identification - Sign in and out on the Help Counter computer in the back office and wear a name tag.

2. Professionalism - Maintain an attitude of mutual respect and flexibility.

3. Dependability - Contact the school or coordinator if you are unable to volunteer on your scheduled day.

4. Confidentiality - Protect the teacher’s and student’s right to privacy.

Other district reminders:
Parents are not disciplinarians. Alert the proper school official if you see a problem.

Volunteers must participate in all school-wide drills if they are in the building during the time of these activities.

For your own safety, do not handle any bodily fluids without proper protection. The rule of thumb is, “If it is wet and it isn’t yours, don’t touch it”.

Also for the volunteer’s protection, stay within sight and sound of a certified staff member when working with individual students.

Additional Information About Volunteering at Beaverton High School:

The main doors to the school are directly south of the flag pole. The main office is located just to our right as you walk in those doors. When you arrive to volunteer, please sign in and out on the Help Counter computer that is in the back office.

Our Volunteer Committee meetings are held the first Friday of each month in the Community Room which is located on your left as you enter the main doors and walk straight past the office.

Volunteers are welcome to use the parking spots available at the front of the school and the three located at the back near the field. Faculty and students should not be parking in these spaces. If these are full, use the street or other lots.

Staff restrooms located in the main hall and in the office are open to parents.

There is a coat closet located in the office on the left. This is not a guaranteed secure area so purses should remain with the volunteer.

Feel free to use the copy room for school projects. The office copier is reserved for “quick” copies only. Be sure to share the space with busy teachers who may need to jump in.

Please, no food or drinks near computers. Volunteers are welcome to eat in the staff room or if appropriate, other areas where they are working.

Smoking is not allowed on school grounds.
