VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT-RONDA

Beginning of the new school year:
There was some discussion about having a freshmen/new parent orientation night at the beginning of the school year. Ronda described the process for new students over the summer before they begin at BHS. They attend meetings of “new student groups” with 8-10 students to go over block schedule, odd/even days, etc. so students will feel comfortable when they first start at Beaverton. One of the parents asked if it would be possible to print the schedules so classes were listed in order of odd/even to make it clearer.

ASB Sticker Scholarships were discussed for those students who would not be able to purchase an ASB Sticker. There is a form that can be filled out and turned in to the school district to allow the district to inform the school that a family is on free or reduced lunch. The counselors can also help a student obtain an ASB Sticker if necessary.

Beaver Days will continue to be approximately two weeks before school starts so all schedule information can be inputted before the first day of school. Next year we will give the students numbers when they arrive so they can enter numerically and won’t miss their spot.

Security:
We have 4 campus security officers who work with Ronda and have a very detailed system of organization. They will stop parents if you are not wearing a nametag, and sometimes even if you are. We also have an SRO with the Beaverton Police Dept. who is here Mon-Thurs, and we work very closely with them.

Enrollment is currently 2032.

The Club Fair in September was a huge success. All the different clubs had tables set up in the cafeteria and students could get information and decide what they were interested in.

Advisory is working well this year. The 0.5 career ed credit is earned through advisory and must be completed by senior year. Students attend an actual job interview and job shadow, etc.

ODE visitation: Our ESL program is being audited so students, parents, staff members and administration are being interviewed.

October 18th we will be hosting a parent forum on appropriate computer/internet usage for students.

Typically a student has to apply for 15-20 scholarships before one gets awarded! (Our list only includes general scholarships. For school specific scholarships you must go through the school.)

Returning mentors should already have received something from Rita Morgan with their student’s schedule. New mentors will hear soon and Rita will have a training session.
