BHS Volunteer Committee Minutes 05/03/07
Meeting called to order 9:00
Introductions were made.
VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Ronda
We are doing AP or IB testing every day in the month of
May.
There is a new policy for Valedictorians and Salutatorians
next year at BHS. There will be one of each. It will be
the student with the highest weighted grade point average.
The goal is to have a district wide policy soon.
A language arts adoption will occur next year. This summer
we will do some aligning with our science curriculum. In
three years it will be required to take three years of science
to graduate.
There is an attendance committee forming to create a policy
and hold students accountable.
We have received a library grant of $10,000 over the last
three years. Jill has done a fantastic job updating the
library materials. We will have the grant next year also.
June 25-Aug 2 are the dates for summer school this year.
We will again offer free breakfast and lunch to students
and community members in need. Students with a D or F in
reading, writing or math or incoming freshmen needing help
will be the students attending summer school.
COUNSELING: Derek Nekoba
Junior conferences occurred in April. Juniors met one on
one with their counselor and discussed post high school
planning; how to research schools and scholarships.
Counselors are meeting with sophomores early in May in
advisory to discuss how to get into a college and provide
information about financial aid.
There were at least two local scholarships this year that
no one applied for. Counselors are attempting to let students
know about these scholarships so students will apply.
Counseling is preparing for seniors to graduate on June
11th. The awards and recognition assembly is May 31st.
The counseling department spends a lot of time getting
into classrooms and trying to reach more students.
MINUTES approved for March and April.
