BHS Volunteer Meeting Minutes
March 2, 2007

Meeting called to order 9:00

Introductions were made.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Ronda
Building Update: The chair lift in the business wing passed final inspection. Keys are being made now that can be issued to students who need the lift. Staff and students will be trained on its use.

New student center furniture will be arriving around spring break.

Bookshelves are being constructed to hold the math textbooks.

This is a new language arts textbook adoption year. We are looking at ways to orchestrate a smooth transition.

We have established a PE committee for bond facilities which includes staff and architects. They will look at physical education needs first and athletics second. Title 9 (gender equity) issues will be dealt with. Construction will begin in the spring of ’08 and be completed in the fall of ’08.

BHS Visioning Committee continues to meet and formulate proposals for the future of Beaverton High School including Merle Davies.

Instructional Engineers continue to work with us on the new cafeteria. Surface cracks are appearing on both the inside and the outside of the building, but none of them go all the way through. They are looking at the construction and confirming that all was done correctly. The building is still totally safe.

All work orders have been completed for the fire marshal and the district safety officer.

The air quality was checked on the portables after a report from a parent that her daughter was not feeling well after attending a class in one of the portables. It was determined that more outside air was needed to circulate through the portables, so that was taken care of. Teachers will keep the fans on the heating and cooling system running during school time.

There is a district wide review of the Valedictorian/Salutatorian selection process for next year. It is likely there will be only one of each based on student’s cumulative weighted grade point average.
