BHS
Volunteer Meeting Minutes
June 2, 2006
16 members present
Meeting called to order at 9:00 am
Introductions
were made.
A
few suggestions were made to improve the principal’s
tea. It was felt maybe we talked a bit too long about Merle
Davies and possibly new parents might not have felt comfortable
asking questions. We discussed moving the tea to September
to welcome new parents. We would include a flyer in the
back to school packet inviting all parents, in hopes of
having better attendance.
Minutes
were approved.
COMMITTEE
CHAIR REPORTS:
Michele asked if there was anything new to report.
STAFF
APPRECIATION: Toni
Thanks to Laurie Fitterer and to Nancy Noyer who stepped
in and helped this time. The staff was thrilled!
MENTORING:
Denise
The counselors will look for incoming 8th graders to assign
to a mentor and many current students will continue meeting
with their mentors next year.
STUDENT
ACTIVITIES: Leslie
Leslie discussed methods for getting chaperones for dances
and the possibility of getting e-mail addresses for families
that do not volunteer so they could be contacted also. She
had trouble finding chaperones for the prom this year.
NEWSLETTER:
Jane
The newsletter will be prepared next Thursday at 9:00. They
will continue with the same format next year.
COLLEGE
AND CAREER CENTER: Martha
It was confirmed they will be posting the position to replace
Alice. It will be a certified position, and 8 hours a day.
UNFILLED POSITIONS:
Data Entry: Karen’s position remains unfilled.
Scholarships:
Denise will enter the scholarships for the first half of
the year and will look for someone to do it with her in
the middle of the year. Kimberly Killian told Denise to
contact her when she begins looking for help, because she
may be interested.

RECRUITING FORM:
We reviewed changes made in previous meetings and discussed
a few additional changes. Anne asked Karen to e-mail her the
form so she could take care of the changes for next year.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:
Janice reported that this has been a great year for many reasons!
The senior assembly and breakfast were wonderful yesterday.
The turnout was fabulous. Although all the data is not in
yet, she is confident the final numbers will show we did very
well on our testing. We had 180 plus students earn the CIM
this year.
Teachers
will be very busy this summer with continuation of licensure,
inservice and professional development.
Next
year we will be changing to a 6A classification for our sports
activities. Our league will contain the Beaverton comprehensive
high schools and Jesuit. Because we will have fewer schools
in our league, this means we will have to travel outside our
area to play some of our games. There is also a possibility
we will have booster buses for the traveling games. Basketball
will have a four night a week schedule, without the double
headers on Friday night next year.
