Meeting called to order 9:00

Introductions were made.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Ronda
Facility Update: The lighting in the gym was completely replaced during Winter Break. The previous lighting was not up to code. The lights are now fluorescent, so they will turn on immediately without the need to wait for them to warm up. The auxiliary gyms have been painted, and the main gym is scheduled to be painted next. Outdoor lighting was installed on the pathways to the portables. The softball scoreboard and fencing was completed. We are in the process of making our business classroom area handicap accessible. A chair lift is being installed.

A committee has been formed to deal with bond dollar usage and locker room improvements. The girl’s locker room and team room is the main focus of the work, but the wrestling gym and boy’s locker room are also being improved. The entire project should be completed by Fall ’08.

Volunteers are needed on January 29th and 30th to hand out schedules and assist the counseling office in the library.

The Health Careers program will still run as it does currently, with the same lottery system, next year when the new medical magnet high school opens. We have approximately 140 students enrolled in our program.

The Capital Center Program will also continue next year. They are planning to lease space somewhere different next year due to the sale of the current building they are in.

INCOMING PARENT COFFEE: Michele
There was discussion on what would be the most helpful time to host a coffee for incoming parents who are new to Beaverton High School. We considered continuing to have the event in May, or moving it to September or October next year.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES UPDATE: MR. NIESLANIK
50 students from last year’s graduating class visited BHS during the senior class advisory on January 4th and discussed what has occurred in their life during the last 8 months, since they graduated.

Student Government has been discussing what is happening throughout the school district regarding behavior at dances, activities, sporting events, etc. Mr. Nieslanik gave us a copy of a letter which he is sending home to all students at BHS that he hopes will prompt family discussion regarding appropriate behavior, dress, etc. at dances and events.

February 13th we will have an assembly to celebrate Beaverton High School and all the community service that is performed by our students! Last year we donated over $7,000.00 from our student government/leadership fundraising events and activities!
