BHS
Volunteer Meeting Minutes
Feb. 4, 2005
Anne
Ward called the meeting to order at 9:10.
•Committee Reports
CCC – There is an orientation of new
volunteers scheduled for next Monday at 9:30. If you did not
get your e-mail about the meeting, let Martha or Julie know.
They have a list of duties as well as some specific jobs to
assign to people.
At
the orientation Alice will go over what the jobs entail and
Julie and Martha will go over the basics.
Leslie
Beechwood, Sydney York and the action committee have gone
to Southridge and Westview to look at their CCCs. They will
now plan a meeting with Martha, Julie, Linda and Alice to
go over what they have found. Leslie reported that Westview
had some very innovative ways to get students to come in.
They require all Juniors to come in and do a research project,
researching 3 Universities, whether they are college bound
or not.
Counseling – They are having a senior
transcript sending “party” on Monday from 9-11.
It is in the small conference room A, behind the main office.
Lynne Hessel will be coordinating the effort.
They
just finished re-filing the vault so all student records are
now in alphabetical order.
Student Liaison – Barbee is still looking
for three more couples to chaperone the Mardi Gras Dance.
It is Feb 12th from 8-11 at the Zoo.
Newsletter – Next Thursday at 9:00
we will be doing the newsletter, most likely in the community
room.
Staff Appreciation – Wednesday, May
18th will be the next staff appreciation day. We will have
another potluck. Look for more info to come as we get closer.
Volunteer
Appreciation
Will occur in April or May. As a committee we revise the thank
you letter each year and send it to all people who have volunteered,
with a window decal. More next month.
Principal’s
Tea
Will occur on the first Friday in May. We invite middle school
volunteers to attend also.

Mentoring
James, Rita Morgan (who is coordinating our small learning
communities) and Denise Velaski are going to meet to begin
developing a mentoring program. They will determine how to
coordinate the program across the school and see how it will
fit together. Ours is a parent volunteer program, modeled
after the one that exists at Sunset. Theirs involves parents
mentoring Juniors. Ours will begin next year.
Forecasting
Packets
On February 9th, 18th and 24th we will coordinate a volunteer
effort to stuff forecasting packets.
Fred
Meyer
Has provided an opportunity for volunteers to earn $8.00 and
hour for their organization by manning the table to get customers
to sign up for the new shopper reward cards. So far members
from Grad Night, Drama, Band and Choir are participating.
Grad
Night
They are planning a Texas Hold ‘Em fundraiser night
on April 2nd. It will be held off campus. Look for more details
soon.
VICE PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
-
There was an incident with a young lady yesterday morning
between 9:30 and 10:00 am. Two males forced her into a 2nd
floor restroom and one of them produced a knife. The victim
grabbed the knife to defend herself and may have cut her
hand. She described the males as wearing dark hooded sweatshirts.
The Beaverton Police responded immediately and have been
very helpful.
- The
Mardi Gras Dance is next Saturday, February 12th.
- Beaver
Days will be August 30th and 31st next year. There will
be 2 ½ hours per class with an hour break in between.
- New
student council reps were elected. James would like to see
a more variety of kids get involved in student council.
Beaverton
Education Foundation
Has bought the house for the Sept 24 Lion King Show. You can
purchase tickets now at www.beavertonkids.org.
Student
Behavior
Michelle has not scheduled a parent meeting yet concerning
student behavior at dances at games. The feeling of several
committee members is that all the “hoopla” surrounding
the issue has died down a bit, and felt that a parent meeting
would stir things back up unnecessarily. It was felt that
now that the “storm has passed”, that changes
in the area of student behavior will occur in a more gradual
manner.
